Staff at East Cheshire NHS Trust celebrate The King’s Coronation by unveiling a commemorative plaque

28 April 2023

Ahead of the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen on Saturday 6th May, 2023, staff at East Cheshire NHS Trust have paid tribute to the new monarch by unveiling a commemorative plaque at Macclesfield District General Hospital.

The plaque has been erected amongst a new orchard on the hospital site, in tribute to his Majesty’s passion for ecology and wildlife.

Kara Mason, Director of Finance, Estates and Planning at East Cheshire NHS Trust said, “It’s great to be able to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III with a plaque which will be here for generations to come. We felt it was a fitting tribute to our King, whose passion for nature and wildlife is widely recognised, to dedicate our new orchard to his reign.

The new orchard is home to a small collection of fruit trees kindly donated by the Cheshire Wildlife Trust and is positioned nearby the duck pond to the rear entrance of the Macclesfield Hospital site.

“We’re delighted to have planted this new, young orchard on our site as part of our green and sustainability agenda. Not only will this be a welcome retreat for staff wellbeing, it is also symbolic of the growth of our Trust, our workforce and the significant development work currently taking place to enhance our services for the local community. We’re looking forward to enjoying it for many years to come.”
