Staff at East Cheshire NHS Trust have today unveiled a brand-new, Elective Treatment Centre, after being awarded funding from the NHS England Targeted Investment Funding programme to undertake capital works on its Macclesfield Hospital site.
This funding has enabled the refurbishment of the vacated Macmillan Cancer Resource Centre located by the East entrance after cancer services were transferred to the new ‘Christie at Macclesfield’ site.
The new purpose-built Elective Treatment Centre provides four additional elective treatment rooms, five additional outpatient consultation rooms and multiple recovery areas.
It will deliver a range of outpatient and diagnostic procedures, predominantly gynaecological and urology services, helping improve patient experience through reducing waiting lists and times.
Professor Andrew Sinclair, Consultant Urologist at East Cheshire NHS Trust said, “It’s very exciting to open this new treatment centre and welcome our first patients who will be able to have their treatment and diagnostic tests performed more locally.
“From a urology perspective, we are now able to offer all our treatment and diagnostics tests here, including flexible cystoscopies, transperineal prostate biopsies, trans urethral laser ablation treatment for bladder cancer, botox for incontinence as well as multiple other procedures.
“One of the other fantastic benefits is that the centre is a brand-new, state of the art environment, so there’s great development opportunities for the staff to provide a great service locally.”
Chair, Aislinn O’Dwyer said, “It’s an honour to officially open our new Elective Treatment Centre after all the incredible hard work and team effort which has gone into it. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved including our Estates and Facilities teams, the Outpatient team, Clinical teams, Planning and IT colleagues amongst many more.
CEO Ged Murphy, added, “This centre is one of many exciting investment projects underway on our Macclesfield site which will help us to deliver truly outstanding, local patient care to the communities of East Cheshire. I hope there are many successful treatments delivered here in the months and years to come.”
