The Neonatal team at Macclesfield Hospital have been recognised for their outstanding parent-focused care with top level national accreditation.
Colleagues on the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) received the top green accreditation in Family Integrated Care (known as ‘FICare’) following an independent assessment from the North West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (NWNODN).
Family Integrated Care (FiCare) is a model of neonatal care which promotes a culture of partnership between families and staff, enabling and empowering parents to become confident, knowledgeable, and independent primary carers.
The unit’s dedicated team offers high-dependency and short-term intensive care for infants in an environment tailored to their medical, developmental, and social needs.
Joy Casey, Registered Nursing Associate (RNA) who works on the unit, said: “Over the past few months, our neonatal team has worked tirelessly to create an environment where families feel empowered and fully involved in their baby's care.
“We understand that having a baby in neonatal care can be an incredibly stressful and emotional experience, which is why we prioritise integrating families from the very start of their journey.
“By doing so, we help ease anxieties and strengthen those all-important parent-baby bonds.
“We are incredibly proud, and this accreditation is a testament to our commitment to ensuring that every family feels supported, valued, and truly part of their baby's care journey.”
