Macclesfield Hospital employee retires after 52 years with the Trust

21 June 2023

Colleagues across East Cheshire NHS Trust bid a fond farewell to Sylvia Kendrick, who has worked in the main restaurant at Treetops since the very first day Macclesfield Hospital was opened in the early 1980s. Before starting at Macclesfield Hospital, Sylvia was based at Parkside Hospital which she joined in 1971.

Sylvia said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed working at Macclesfield hospital and have made many long-lasting friendships during my time at the Trust. It has often felt like a family, especially because of the size of the Trust.”

Sylvia’s role included preparing hot and cold food for staff and patients. She added, “I enjoyed providing food for people as it’s a form of care and way to connect. I particularly enjoyed preparing food when we had junior doctor intakes.”

Kara Mason, Director of Finance, Estates and Planning at East Cheshire NHS Trust said, “We wish Sylvia a happy and well-deserved retirement and thank her from the bottom of our hearts for the years she has devoted to working with us at East Cheshire NHS Trust.

“Sylvia is one of our longest standing members of staff and as we look forward to celebrating the NHS’s 75th anniversary we would like to extend thanks to all staff, past and present, for everything they do and have done in supporting us in providing the best possible care for our communities.

“We would love to hear the stories from people who have worked with us over the decades – especially if you were one of our very first members of staff or a volunteer when the NHS launched in 1948. Please get in touch!”

Sylvia has many plans following her retirement including booking a holiday, spending time with friends and family as well as flower arranging and gardening which she will now have more time for.
