A former patient at Macclesfield Hospital is hoping to hit the jackpot after hosting her second dazzling event to raise vital funds for the breast care unit that saved her life.
Gena Moors, who was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in 2020 at the hospital, held her second Splash of Pink Breast Cancer Ball at Shrigley Hall & Hotel on Saturday 21st September, in a bid to raise £50,000 to purchase a lifesaving piece of equipment for the unit, above and beyond what the NHS funds.
The event was Vegas themed which was somewhere Gena always wanted to go but could never see the opportunity. Following her diagnosis and treatment she fulfilled her dream by going for her 50th birthday with husband, Rob.
Attended by around 150 guests including staff from the unit, the event included a guest appearance from TV personality Shaun Wallace, who is well known for being one of the six 'chasers' on ITV quiz show The Chase.
Guests were greeted with a drink’s reception and a three-course dinner, a fun money casino, entertainment, a silent and live auction and a disco until 1.00am.
Speaking at the event, Gena said: "After the success of last year's event, my mission is to raise another £25,000 on top of last year's total of £24,000 to help purchase a piece of life-saving equipment for the breast care unit at Macclesfield Hospital.
"Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported this cause, the ultrasound machine we want to buy with this money will help save lives."
"I also want this to be a reminder to anyone to always get checked. If you think anything is wrong at all, please get checked."
The mum-of-two’s fundraising efforts started in 2023 with the creation of ‘Splash of Pink’ which was established as a thank you for the care she received.
Her first event took place last year and raised £24,000 with Gena keen to go one better and raise further funds to hit her goal of £50,000.
Lily Preston, Fundraising and Events Manager at East Cheshire NHS Charity said: “We’re so grateful to Gena for throwing such an incredible event and supporting our charity. The money raised will go towards supporting the lives of future patients.”
