East Cheshire NHS Trust welcomes the safe arrival of a New Year’s Day baby girl

5 January 2021

New Year’s Day was made extra special this year for the parents, family and friends of Ariana Aurora Serena Chalmers, who was born at 9.45am weighing 8lbs 1oz.

New mother Sade Chalmers said, “My second baby Ariana was my first home birth and it was an amazing experience. The midwives were absolutely fantastic and were very encouraging with me during labour! After having a hard time during my first birth I was worried but the midwives were so kind and supportive and made me feel safe. I can’t thank them enough for helping me bring my beautiful second baby girl into the world.”

East Cheshire midwife Kerry Cook attended the birth and says she is delighted to have played a vital part in the birth of babies at home.

“It’s an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be involved with home births and to be part of the family's journey from early pregnancy to delivery and completion of care.

Bo Hamilton-Cody, Head of Midwifery at East Cheshire NHS Trust said, “We are delighted to celebrate the arrival of East Cheshire’s first New Year’s Day baby.  Ariana is the fourth home birth we’ve attended during the festive period and we’re thrilled to be able to offer the choice of a home birth to all women across East Cheshire despite the current challenges that Covid-19 brings.

To reassure women, although England is now under tighter lockdown measures, we know how important it is for partners to be involved at this special time and continue to support partners from within the same household to attend at any early pregnancy scans, 12 and 20-week scans.
