Staff at East Cheshire NHS Trust have been featured in a Behind the Scenes ITV national news story which aired last night, showcasing how the trust’s services are working together with local partners to reduce A&E waiting times and avoid hospital admissions.
During their visit, the ITV film crew and Health and Science Emily Morgan attended Macclesfield Hospital’s A&E department, before heading over to our Knutsford community site where Nurses, GPs and paramedics all work together deciding who should treat patients and crucially where.
ITV’s Emily Morgan said, “So much of the onus is on the hospital to get patients out into the community but also to revolutionise, to modernise healthcare to and keep patients from coming in.”
Local GP, Dr Paddy Kearns, spoke to Emily about the role of the wider network in keeping patients out of hospital, explaining, “There’s far too many people in hospital who don’t need to be there really. It’s not the place for a lot of people. If we can get upstream of the hospital, before they go anywhere near A&E, they don’t even need to go to hospital.”
The crew went on to pay a visit to local patient Jude, who is currently receiving care in her own home thanks to the excellent community care network here in East Cheshire.
