Congleton War Memorial Hospital’s Wellbeing Garden recognised at North West in Bloom Awards

22 November 2024

CWMH award IMG_0850.jpgCongleton War Memorial Hospital’s 100th anniversary celebrations have been given a boost after the Wellbeing Garden at the site was honoured at the North West in Bloom Awards (NWIB).

Created earlier this year as part of East Cheshire NHS Charity’s Wellbeing Appeal to commemorate the hospital’s centenary year, the garden claimed the ‘Best Landscaping Project’ at the awards hosted by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) at Bolton Wanderers Football Club in October.

The garden, which officially opened in the summer, provides a safe and secure environment designed to promote wellness and decrease stress for both patients, visitors and staff.

Work was overseen by Congleton-based gardener Patti Pinto, with help from the local community and a significant donation from the William Dean Countryside and Educational Trust.

After receiving the award, Patti said: “Winning this award is a tremendous honour and a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.

“I know that staff, patients and their families have loved being able to come out to the garden, so a big thank you to the community and all our supporters for making this possible.”

Volunteers are also being invited to help plant a mixed species hedgerow at the rear of the hospital at the end of the month.

The planting sessions will be held on Saturday 30th November from 10am to 12pm, and on Sunday 1st December from 1:30pm to 3:30pm. If you’re interested in participating, please contact Patti by emailing pattipinto1@gmail.com.
