Congleton War Memorial Hospital is celebrating 100 years of service on 22nd May 2024. The hospital was built in 1924 and paid for by the local community as a memorial to the 243 local people killed in the First World War.
Until the National Health Service was formed in 1948 the hospital was funded by every worker in Congleton contributing 1d. per week (30p in today’s money), an annual hospital carnival, private subscriptions, bequests and other fundraising.
The hospital remains an essential part of Congleton and we’re keen to celebrate its past, present and future.
