Ultrasound Level 1 Course

Who should attend

A practical course on the use of Ultrasound in the assessment of critically ill patients designed for Acute Physicians, Anaesthetists, Intensivists and Emergency Physicians. 

This course is suitable for

Consultants, Middle Grades, Registrars, Junior Doctors, Foundation doctors and ACPS

What will I learn

This practical course is suitable for those new to the clinical applications of focused ultrasound as well as those with prior experience of ultrasound.

  • Become competent in the basic skills required to achieve Level 1 accreditation in USS
  • Learn how to set up the machines and USS knobology
  • Become familiar with the physics of Ultrasound and the training and certification requirements in USS for EM

Course content:

  • Gives you an Introduction to Emergency USS based on RCEM Curriculum – Emergency Medicine Ultrasound (EMUS)
  • Takes you beyond Level 1
  • Includes interactive, focused lectures, with extensive use of real-life screenshots and video clips
  • Features immediate post-lecture Practical Sessions with live demos with models and patients (condition allowing)
  • Offers an opportunity for delegates to practice on a variety of widely used and state-of-the-art machines

Additional information:

The course covers the topics outlined in the new curriculum including:

  • Ultrasound Physics and Knobology
  • Focused assessment for Abdominal Aorta Aneurysum (AAA)
  • Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (eFAST)
  •  Echo in Life Support (ELS) and shock assessment,
  •  Vascular Assess- Central and Peripheral
  •  Fascia Iliaca Compartment Block.

What's different about our course?

  • We go beyond level 1
  • Lung Ultrasound covering Pneumothorax/Pulmonary oedema and Pneumonia
  • DVT Scan-to rule out DVT in Lower Limbs

You will also work with handheld ultrasound devices, scannable manikins and state-of-the-art ultrasound simulators, able to demonstrate a wide range of realistic pathologies. You will receive guidance from the faculty, there is also a great deal of freedom to use the equipment and the time to maximise the learning benefit for yourself.
