What I will learn:
Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) has become an essential tool within acute specialties to enhance bedside diagnostics, facilitate safe interventional procedures and guide referral to specialist services.
It is vital for this tool to be expanded to community and prehospital settings, where access to definitive investigations is limited. This skill is invaluable for clinicians at all levels of training from medical school through to consultancy and allied healthcare professionals in any discipline.
Course Objectives:
- Utilising clinical skills and promoting holistic assessment of the patient
- Enabling the Clinician to identify and manage common medical problems in practice, potentially reducing unnecessary referrals to secondary care.
- Introducing clinical ultrasound competencies based on Virtual wards and out of hospital patients.
- Enhancing bedside diagnostics skills in the absence of Xrays, CT scans and guide goal directed treatment.
- Using interactive, teaching strategies, with extensive use of real-life screenshots and video clips.
-
Practical sessions providing opportunities to practice on a variety of widely used and state-of-the-art machines and simulators.
