Who should attend
This one day course is accredited through the North West Simulation Education Network (NWSEN) and has been developed for staff working in the acute setting.
It is specifically aimed at all staff bands including Registered Nurses, Matrons, Nursing Associates, Health Care Assistants and Allied Health Professionals.
What will I learn
The identified learning objectives include:
- To raise awareness of the Five Priorities for Care and the skills to apply the principles in practice.
- To promote understanding of the uncertainty of dying and how to communicate with patients and families.
- To understand the importance of advance care planning and how this impacts on care delivery for the patient and family.
- To develop confidence in procedures related to the end of life, with a familiarity of the Trust guidelines and documentation involved.
Course Content
The course will include a range of learning methods including clinical simulation, debrief and teaching on topics including Five Priorities for Care, rapid discharge, communication and medicine management in End of Life Care.
Participants will be involved in a series of simulated scenarios using actors and high fidelity manikins. Debriefing models will be employed to assist participants to learn positively and constructively from the experience.
